About Marleon

Marleon's work explores themes of identity and memory and how they co-exist within one’s culture, religion and history. The artist often adopts South Africa as a backdrop on canvas. This is especially evident when conveying personal interpretations of loss and gain, love and hate, being and wanting.

Furthering her exploration of challenging internal ideals, Marleon has found the theme of belonging seeping into her work since relocating in 2007 to the UK; an environment whose culture, history and politics seem to be just as convoluted as her own.
